Scrapbooking is not a new craft. You will notice that the exact time of when it originated will vary between articles and information you may read and hear. During the Victorian era around the 1830's was when the term 'scrapbook' first appeared. However forms of scrapbooking including recording poems, quotes, events, stories and observations go as far back as 1598. The invention of the camera in the 1880's really helped to revolutionise the world of scrapbooking. In 1980 Creative Memories helped to open they eyes of many people to this wonderful craft even more so and still today, Creative Memories is a large part of the scrapbooking community. Then of course, there is digital scrapbooking which has grown (and will continue to) since the introduction of the internet and the affordability of computers, software and accessories. Over the years there has been plenty of growth within the scrapbooking industry and there is sure to be plenty more. With a lot more interest in Photography, Geneaology and documenting Famliy Trees and History, the craft of scrapbooking has boomed. It is a craft of very few rules as alot of other crafts can be incorporated into your scrapbook creations. From needlepoint and sewing to quilling, origami, paper punching and stamping, Scrapbookers are only limited by their imagination. Today we use scrapbooks to tell a story, to document friends, family and all of the special people we come across in our lives. We record moments in time, big events and small ones. Often it is the smaller moments that make for the most meaningful stories. With the relatively recent production of acid free products, thought to have started around the late 1970's, scrapbooking precious memories and recording our adventures behind each photo will now have our scrapbooks becoming family heirlooms to be passed onto future generations. This mere thought often inspires alot of people to know that their artwork will live on long past their own time. Scrapbooking is a creative means of connecting with our loved ones. Everyone from all walks of life (men, women, grandparents, children - everyone!) can relate to the enormous satisfaction of being able to create their own special piece of history or memorabilia. Or even to give your creativity as a gift and to see the joy your recepient gets from acquiring something so unique, tailored personally to them. As millions of people around the world agree, the craft of scrapbooking is certainly one of variety, creativity and great satisfaction.
